Christy Lane developed the Dare to Dance program 18 years ago to meet the growing demand for social dancing in the educational school systems. Unlike performance dancing (such as ballet, tap, or jazz), social dancing refers to the type of dance commonly enjoyed at weddings, school dances, and events.
Christy has presented in every state across the the U.S., launched hundreds of school and after-school programs, and established Dare to Dance products as essential tools for many teachers.
As the line dance craze gained popularity, Christy's videos and books started selling widely to the general public. Her" Complete Guide to Line Dancing" video alone sold over 500,000 copies and her school assembly program was voted #1 in southern California.
A strong advocate for wellness, Christy emphasized the physical, mental, emotional and social benefits of moving to music. "It's not just dance, it's a life skill that benefits all ages."

“Thank you both for providing such an amazing assembly for our students! I cannot begin to tell you how much I appreciate you making modifications to the dances. “I have been a Health and PE teacher for 25 years, owner of a gymnastics school and NETA Certified Personal Trainer. Years ago you were the main presenter for a Pennsylvania State HPER Convention at Seven Springs Resort and I thought you were the greatest. We had so much fun that night and it was your enthusiasm and professionalism that made all the difference. I have purchased several of your products fun dances that the kids love. I have also used them with Senior Citizens.”

Just wanted to write a short note to let you know how much I love using the Square Dancing Today CD, I teach a skills and instruction class for recreational dance to physical education majors and minors at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Michigan. I use your instructional CD’s to teach the dances to my students and they then have the skills and confidence necessary to go into the public schools and teach developmentally appropriate rhythmic movement including Square Dancing during their practicum teaching and intern teaching experiences. The verbal cues and instructions are excellent and easy to decipher and the music is up beat and interesting. Thank you for providing great teaching tools to beginning physical educators and seasoned physical educators. Please keep up the good work!!
Kathy Conway, Western Michigan University, Health Physical Education and Recreation Department
“…thank you, again, for the awesome presentation/conference you put on for our State Conference. You were as incredible in person as you are on your videos… I will reiterate my comment at the conference, the videos, as excellent as they are, did not do you justice.”
Jill Jenkins-Meinerding, Coldwater, Ohio
“I wanted to e-mail you and tell you how impressed I was with your Dare to Dance products. I teach middle school PE at EastLake Middle School in Chula Vista, CA. After going to your training in San Diego recently, I was able to implement square dance and multicultural dance to my students for the first time. I felt very competent after taking your training. This was by far my favorite unit with the students (and their favorite too!!)”
Jason Reisenfeld Chula Vista, CA
“It was great to see you back on the road again. What you taught me as a teacher made many hundreds ol students learn to love dancing-and I am not a great dancer in any way!”

“I should have sent this a week ago to tell you how WONDERFUL you were for our camp. You really set the tone for our best camp ever! We had our evaluation meeting, with the committee and leaders last Thursday, and everyone couldn’t stop talking about how great you were. The surveys the girls completed really told the tale. We had them rate the classes on a scale of 1-5. Nearly all gave you a 5 but, several wrote in a 10 and circled it. A bunch also wrote in very positive comments. They all want you back. I have heard, “You knocked it out of the park” and “Christy was by far the best keynote and assembly we have ever had.” I have had parents and community members request your contact information. I hope we will see more of you, when you get back to the northwest. I can’t thank you enough

“I have most of the Christy Lane Dance videos and love each and every one of them!! I had the opportunity to meet Christy briefly one year at a National PTA Convention and bought one of almost everything! I am an elementary teacher and high school dance team coach. My students love the videos too!”
Kathy Howard Boonville, MO
“You have been a celebrity here for years and didn’t even know it! Our groups come from all over the US and they all seem to enjoy the dances you teach, so we would love to learn more. I have been teaching aerobics and group fitness classes since 1976 in the fitness business, along with working with all ages in Parks & Recreation for Knoxville and Pigeon Forge Tennessee, so that’s how we got your videos of line dance. I have a hugh library of instructor tapes/videos of all kinds of dance and exercise. You do a great job of teaching on the videos for even the non-dancer to catch on to. Thanks again and hope to meet you sometime in the future!”
Marylu Atchley, Coker Creek Village
Absolutely amazing! Even the most self-conscious attendee couldn’t resist. I was thrilled to see so many of our members involved. A lot of people really got to know each other that night because of this event. Let’s do it again next year!

Thank you for making Seafirst’s Weekend at the Couer d’ Alene Resort such a success. As always, there were early rumors going into the party that a few participants wouldn’t be caught dead dancing in front of their superiors. However, those feelings were quickly dispelled by your infectious energy and enthusiasm. Your easy and motivational teaching style left the tables empty and the dance floor bursting with happy energy.
